YouTube to Restrict Inappropriate Content Aimed at Children
YouTube to Restrict Basically shut down of Google owned video sharing site was not a kind of full ban. An announcement was made by YouTube in order to restrict disturbing videos mainly aimed at children. They also announce to restrict all kinds of children characters in sexual or other kind of violent scenes in case viewers report them. YouTube new policies were facing new charges about children watching inappropriate content on daily basis which are basically unsuitable for them. In some videos Disney characters are pointing guns on some popular character while in Peppa Pig UK cartoon character is tortured by dentist.
Update process:
According to YouTube previous policy mostly ineligible videos were supplied for advertising purpose. The main purpose behind it was to stop video uploaders from uploading such kind of disturbing and weird content. Juniper Downs YouTube director of policy states that “Earlier this year, we updated our policies to make content featuring inappropriate use if family entertainment characters ineligible for monetisation”. He also said “We’re in the process of implementing a new policy that age restricts this content in the YouTube main app when flagged. Age-restricted content is automatically not allowed in YouTube Kids. The YouTube team is made up of parents who are committed to improving our apps and getting this right.”
Leave it on time:
According to YouTube they know their responsibilities and duty of care but now the load will be on parents and others as they have to flag sick and inappropriate content by hand.
Different filters to pass:
There are algorithmic filters included in YouTube Kids in order to approve content for children. There will be a team which can review all the flagged videos. However if a video is flagged in YouTube main app it will be forwarded to policy review team. The team will then restrict the video if it is against new policy. Additionally the video will also get block from Kids app automatically. According to YouTube there are thousands of people working in different time zones to review on flagged videos. It was stated in recent report from New York Times that all kind of inappropriate videos need to bypass protective net on daily basis.
